DuckAway

We have made some improvements and enhancements to help make the 2020 season more enjoyable for you. We have replaced the two sliding glass doors sets on the top-level from the kitchen and great room. We have also added a new connecting deck section that connects the front door deck to the mid level side deck, greatly improving the access to the deck. We also rebuilt some sections of the rear deck, improving the clearances on the deck stairs and between the stairs and the house. We have also made some improvements to the pool fence and have added a number of replacement LED lights around the house. And as usual, we have made lots of other tweaks and replaced and updated kitchenware, housewares, and furnishings.

We have made a few improvements and enhancements to help make the 2019 season more enjoyable for you. We have added new carpet in the great room and in all the bedrooms on the middle floor (we replaced all the other carpet the previous year). We have also added new built in shelves in the great room, we have added new updated LED vanity lights in the three main bathrooms and added a dimmer for the lights over the kitchen island. And as usual, we have made lots of other tweaks and replaced and updated kitchenware, housewares, furnishings.

Once again we have made improvements and enhancements to help make the 2018 season more enjoyable for you. We have added a new floor in the recreation room, new carpet on all stairs and hallways and in the master bedroom, new built in shelves in the recreation room, a second stereo, redid the grilling area and as usual, made lots of other tweaks and replaced and updated kitchenware, housewares, and furnishings.

You may not be aware, but there has been a huge beach nourishment project on the beach just north of Duck and north of the Field Research Facility pier. Our oceanfront house up there on Sea Tern Drive was affected and now they are pretty much done around our house, although they are still doing a little more near Dianne Drive. The beach is now apparently huge (we haven’t seen it ourselves).

Another season is here again. We have spent some time preparing by repairing a few things, touching up some paint, doing deep cleans, making sure the kitchen and other things are fully stocked, and as usual doing some more landscaping and weeding (endlessly…). We also have a new refrigerator in the kitchen that was replaced during the previous season and a new refrigerator downstairs that we replaced during this off-season.

Once again we have gotten the house ready for this next 2016 season. We’ve been very pleased with the new grass in back, but have been busy with some new landscaping and constant weed removal. Inside we done some deep cleaning, touched up lots of paint and made sure the kitchen is restocked and up to date. I almost forgot, but we also replaced the washer and dryer with new full-size stacked washer and dryer. Hope you all have a great time.

We are back in Duck at DuckAway for the second short visit this fall and now after the rental season is over. We have been very pleased with the new grass in the back of the house and with some of the plants that we had installed irrigation for. We have been making arrangements to have rain gutters installed at DuckAway and at our other house and to have some door and window work done at our other house. We are making a short stay and will return in the New Year to really get to work.

After a long wait due to availability we expect that the Zoysia sod is being installed. It is being installed in the area in the back of the house which should tie in with the back door, the pool, and the decks. We have been looking forward to this for a long time and expect that the guests will consider it a major improvement and a very nice amenity. In the hot summer weather, for a while after it is installed, it will need to be irrigated fairly often, but it should still be available for the guests to enjoy!

We are now ready for the 2015 rental season at DuckAway. We are very happy to have made a number of improvements to the house and believe all our guests will be very happy. I’ve mentioned some of the improvements in previous posts, including a new pool gate, new 12-volt outdoor lighting, new landscaping and irrigation system, deck and house cleaning, new bathtub and surround resurfacing, upgrading and replacing various kitchenware and household furnishings, and much more. And we were also able to upgrade to new cable boxes that are much smaller but also newer technology. Unfortunately, one of our bigger projects, the installation of Zoysia sod in the area behind the house, is being delayed because of the availability of the sod. But we expect it sometime in probably late June. And on the morning that we were leaving to head back home we discovered that the oven displays were totally blank. So we had to call Sun Realty and they sent someone out and within a couple of days replaced the control panel. Everything is working great, now.

We have been back down to Duck during the winter and spring to get both of our houses ready for the 2015 season. Probably our most ambitious project was a complete kitchen renovation (just like we did for this house, DuckAway, just one year ago) at our other oceanfront house, SeaNotes (www.seanotes.org). And with the extremely harsh winter we had to replace three burst pipes at SeaNotes (but DuckAway did fine). We also had a number of projects at DuckAway including a new rear pool gate, all around outdoor 12-volt lighting, lots of landscaping (much did not survive the winter) and a new irrigation system to help it along, having a plumbing leak in a ceiling fixed, resurfacing the tubs and surrounds, upgrading/replacing kitchenware, some new light fixtures, and much more.
